I will be one of 20 people taking part in this KilimanjaroTrek on the 23rd September 2017.
I'm taking part in this event to raise funds to support the four great charities listed. Each of us that are making the trek have a different focus. Mine is the Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity: Every body knows somebody Dementia Appeal.
This appeal aims to raise £1.5 million to provide:
1) A dementia friendly welcome area, lounge andgarden in our Care of the Elderly
Ward.
2) Changes to the social areas within ourRehabilitation Unit, aimed at promoting
independence and supporting thewell-being of people living with dementia.
3) Dementia friendly cubicles in our Accident& Emergency Department.
4) Improvements that will enhance our healingenvironment across the organisation,
such as signage, flooring,furnishings and decor.
This will aim to deliver a dementia friendly environment forbetter enhanced patient care at Leighton Hospital. Dementia and cognitiveimpairment is increasing across the UK and has a massive impact on the peopleof Cheshire and their families.
Currently, there are 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK. In 2013/14 Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust cared for 1,382 patients, who had eitherdementia or a cognitive impairment. In 2014/15 this number increased to 1,941patients and in 2015/16 the number rose again to 2,237 individuals withdementia or a cognitive impairment cared for at Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Cheshire. With statistics increasing, there is a demand to raise awarenessabout dementia to Cheshire families and advise them about the care available. A dementia friendly welcome area, lounge and garden in our Care of the Elderly Ward. Changes to the social areas within our Rehabilitation Unit, aimed at promoting independence andsupporting the well-being of people living with dementia.
